Igniter: An igniting rod, heated up to a red hot level, ignites wood pellets as they fall inside the firebox. A cooling fan blows air into the pellet smoker from behind the pellet auger to prevent heat backdraft, while the fan underneath the firebox fans the flame – distributing heat evenly throughout the smoker. This heat is used to smoke and slow cook food in the smoker to give it the best flavors possible.

Another “set it and forget it” pellet grill, the Camp Chef allows you to set the temperature controls for up to a range of 500 degrees F, and leave it to do the regulating. With its efficient auto-dispensing pellet hopper and digital temperature controls, the pellet grill sets, maintains and adjusts the desired temperature for even cooking each time. With consistent and fuss-free temperature control, you’ll sure to have the most perfectly grilled foods.
First up- the attached sear box. Two words here, for anybody who has struggled to get their pellet grills up to high temperatures for searing: GAME. CHANGER. The sear box is a propane-powered cast iron-laden work horse with massive fire power (reaches 900 degrees F, friends). This one feature sets the Woodwind above all other pellet grills on the market (in my opinion). It’s like having 2 grills in one. Just look at the ridiculously professional cross hatch grill marks I was able to achieve on these Reverse Seared Tenderloins. The versatility of having the wood fired pellet grill to add all the smoky flavor you want, and the convenience of a hot and fast sear station combined in one grill is basically a dream come true for me. I use it more than I imagined I would and I’m so glad it’s there!

Big Horn’s largest available grill, the XL 1093 comes with a large cooking area of 1093 sq inches. With it’s low price tag of around $300 and a high cooking area, this product could have been a great choice for pellet smokers. However, we’d rather not suggest something that’s susceptible to rust and weather conditions to be kept outdoors at all times.

Its 570 square inch grilling area is very much similar to what you would find on mid-tier options like the Smoke Pro DLX and XT. Although this is a bit smaller than what we expected to see in a top-tier pellet smoker, the Woodwind offers almost all the features that have become synonymous with Camp Chef pellet grills. This includes the LED temperature readout, Smart Smoke Technology, dual thermometer probes, an automated auger, warming rack, side shelf, bottom utility shelf, as well as ash and hopper clean out. A grease management system has been added to boot so that you don’t have to deal with grime when it comes to cleaning your pellet grill.

Normally you will get 1- 3 years of warranty for the top pellet smokers from different companies. Traeger will serve you with a 3-year warranty while Camp Chef will give you only 1 year of warranty. Considered this the safe period for your pellet grill, so take advantage. If you own a top quality smoker then you may need not to think of any replacement within 5 years of buying.

Hey Jeff- thanks for the super job on the review of the CC Woodwind. I saw the video when it first came out- thot THAT would be a great grill someday and filed it mentally. SOMEday is here and I’ve looked everywhere and couldn’t find the “smoke god guy grill!” Then I just stumbled onto your blogs of reviews and reading your entire piece- I said THAT’s the one I want!! And when I clicked on buy now… and BAM!!! up pops the “smoke god guy!!!” Haha!!! Must be the one to get- double confirmation!!
As is the case with all Camp Chef pellet grills, this one has a large 18lb hopper that provides enough fuel for hours of slow cooking or days worth of grilling endeavors. While this might seem like a long time to wait around before you can try out the new pellet flavor of the month, the SmokePro LUX ensures you do not have to. A hopper cleanout is put in place to allow you to change out pellets at any given time.

Although pellet smokers already have their own custom-made wood pellets with different flavor and blends, if you choose to moonlight your smoker as a charcoal smoker for some reason (maybe for a different experience or a cooking experiment), you can use it as a regular smoker using wood chips. Under such circumstances, it’s going to be worth learning a bit about the types of wood chips out there.
It’s time for a SmokePro SG Pellet Grill Review! You all know I’m proudly sponsored by Camp Chef because after using their products side by side with my other pellet grills, I knew I had found a brand I was eager to share with my readers and felt confident promoting. Camp Chef sent me their brand spanking new SmokePro SG Pellet Grill to try out and to review and they specifically asked me to be completely honest-the good the bad, all of it. So here goes!
The grill offers one of the best sear boxes on the market. It can reach up to 900 degrees F giving your food a crisp and perfect sear. The 16,000 BTU stainless steel burner also contains a built-in ignition. The sear box offers grill masters another state of the art tool in their arsenal. While the sear box is an awesome feature, it bumps up the price compared to the PG24.
The Sense-Mate feature is another one of the best additions to this smoker: it is a thermal sensor system that monitors and reads the internal temperature of the grill within 5ºF of the actual temperature! Once you set your desired temperature using its digital controls, the Sense-Mate technology reads and monitors the temperature, while displaying it on the LCD display. Sense-Mate makes sure that heat is kept at a constant temperature, so whether you are cooking at 150ºF or 550ºF, you can rest assured that your meats will be evenly cooked.
If you’ve been around for a while, you know I can’t help myself when it comes to Camp Chef’s new releases. I’ve previously written both a Woodwind pellet grill review as well as the DLX Pellet Grill review. You can read each of those reviews and see my opinions on the overall construction quality and customer satisfaction. For this review, I am going to focus on my favorite new features that the SG pellet grill brings to the table (there are a lot!!) and how they can help you improve your overall grilling experience. Here are the stats for the SG and below I’ll talk you through some of my favorites.
Big Horn’s largest available grill, the XL 1093 comes with a large cooking area of 1093 sq inches. For people who like to add a satisfying seared finish on their grilled meat, we highly recommend the Camp Chef Woodwind pellet grill. The sear box is included at a very affordable plus. This a big plus since it eliminates the need to have two grills. If you feel like having Slide & Grill Technology is necessary, consider buying a sear box separately along with the SmokePro SG. Keep in mind though that this will bump the price up a bit. However, you’ll end up with more than what the Woodwind pellet grill has to offer if your budget allows it.
This grill has a modern heating mechanism that adds to the convenience of using it. When the igniter is turned on, it heats the pellets that feed the fire pot via the auger. This auger  creates a heat shield with the induction pan that evenly heats the surface as per the settings and ensures that the meat is thoroughly cooked. For efficient temperature management, this pellet smoker grill has a Digital Pro Controller that can be used to alter the temperature or keep it consistent while cooking as desired. The controller has a detector that keeps track of the number of pallets fed to the fire pot. There are also manual controls that can be used for setting the temperature to high, smoke and medium as desired.
A pellet grill can be defined as a combination of a smoker and a grill. In wood pellet smokers, the meat is not smoked or grilled with the help of direct flame like a standard grill. This helps in eliminating the problem of flare-ups completely. If you are looking to buy the best wood pellet grill then Camp Chef SmokerPro SE can be a great choice for you. If you’d like to know more about this quality smoker grill, continue reading this Camp Chef SmokePro SE Grill and Smoker review.
