I've had it for right at a year as of the time of this review, and I absolutely LOVE IT. Normally I am of the opinion that you should overspend to get the better product, but I am 100% satisfied with the SE. I've gone through almost 200# of pellets in a year and I've successfully smoked three briskets, pork in various forms, a bunch of whole chickens, salmon, and probably some other thing I'm not thinking of. The show-stopped for me is bacon-wrapped dove breasts. I smoke them for an hour and then finish them on my grill. They are out-of-this-world amazing.
Camp Chef's Woodwind Pellet Smoker is a quality smoker and super searing grill wrapped up in one. Though often referred to as pellet grills, most are smokers with limited grilling capability at best. In 2017 Camp Chef introduced their optional LP gas Sear Box which can be added onto all of their current SmokePro Pellet Smokers. Woodwind is a package deal that comes standard with the Sear Box and sells for about $50 less than a SmokePro with the optional Sear Box. Woodwind also has heavier legs than Smoke Pro models, a lower storage shelf and a stainless steel lid and firepot. Additionally, the integrated meat probe port is located higher in the smoke chamber so the probe wire doesn't get as hot enabling it to last longer. Going forward, Camp Chef intends to make the meat probe port location and stainless steel firepots standard on all models. Otherwise Woodwind is identical to their popular Smoke Pro DLX, which we tested and awarded our AmazingRibs.com Best Value Gold Medal. Scroll down for our review of the Camp Chef SmokePro DLX.

I’m looking to replace my Bradley 4-rack, analog temperature control smoker (the small ice-box style) with this grill/smoker primarily for it’s smoking ability versus grilling. The Bradley has served me well but it has limitations on size/length of cuts and it’s a royal pain to clean up. Do you have any qualms replacing a traditional smoker like the Bradley with this? I have a higher end Weber gas grill for my day-to-day grilling and a 22″ and 32″ (not sure on size – they have not been sold for many years) Weber charcoal grills that I use occasionally to get the real grilled flavor at times.
let me be the first to say, i bought this smoker with the thought of never having to wake up and check a fire through the night. where that's true with this smoker, take into consideration that the hopper holds 18 pounds of pellets and uses about 3 pounds every hour. so make sure you plan accordingly when it comes to smoking meats, obviously put it on at night and set you and alarm to go off just before it runs out of pellets. other than that little problem i had to figure out the hard way, it's a great grill! my cousin thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen when we were grilling on it. also, i'd suggest a wireless thermometer (i bought mine from wal mart for about $20) for grilling or smoking. my burgers came out a little dry because i had never used a pellet grill. other than that, pellets are easier and cheaper to find and there's no worry about a flame going out. I love it!
Food not cooking evenly or at desired times: It’s worth checking out the health of the fans in your pellet grill. Usually, if the fan is unable to distribute the heat properly throughout the whole smoker, these problems occur. Fans are relatively inexpensive and very easy to replace. Even if you see the fan working and still getting these problems, it might be that the fan is working intermittently or at slower speeds that it needs to. Have it replaced: it would be the best course of action and won’t be heavy on your wallet.
As is the case with all Camp Chef pellet grills, this one has a large 18lb hopper that provides enough fuel for hours of slow cooking or days worth of grilling endeavors. While this might seem like a long time to wait around before you can try out the new pellet flavor of the month, the SmokePro LUX ensures you do not have to. A hopper cleanout is put in place to allow you to change out pellets at any given time.

So, when their patent expired in 2006, large companies capitalized on that one and Traeger began facing cut-throat competitions. Within two years, a few companies had already begun producing some of the best pellet grills with more advanced designs and features. By 2014, around 27 companies had already penetrated the market and newer brands were coming out almost every month. Now, with so many companies already in the market, some of them are creating strategic alliances with other brands producing different grilling equipment.

With a temperature probe for the meat inside the chamber, this allows you to keep an eye on the temperature of your meat without opening the grill. Nothing ruins a brisket or roast faster than the griller who constantly fiddles with the meat on the grill. Opening the chamber lets the heat out and that can quickly make for some tough meat. This handy feature takes the guesswork out of how ready your meal is, helping you get the best outcome.
Most pellet smokers aren't so good at searing. Once again the clever folks at Camp Chef address this pellet predicament with an optional LP gas sear burner that can be added onto current Camp Chef SmokePro pellet grills by removing the right side shelf and using the existing hardware to mount the burner. This baby gets HOT! The 16,000 BTU burner range is 480° F Low to 900° F High - fantastic for reverse seared steaks. Cook the steaks low and slow in the smoker at 225° F until the meat probe signals the internal temp is about 110° F, then slap them onto the sear box to finish. Flip like you've never flipped before and don't walk away because it won't be there long before a beautiful brown crust forms and the interior meat climbs to the delicious Chef's Temp range of 130° to 135° F. If you have a grill that hits high searing temps, this option that runs a couple hundred bucks is unnecessary, but if you don't - Click here to get your crazy hot Sear Box!
Every outdoor cooking enthusiast wants an affordable pellet smoker that has all of the key features that even a high-end unit would have. In most cases, this is just a dream and a result of false advertising, because most impressive smokers typically cost a hefty sum of money. The Z Grills Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker claims to be a reasonably-priced smoker that offers top-of-the-line features, and many users have agreed with those claims. With this pellet smoker review of the Z Grills Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker, we’ll find out if it really does what it claims to do.

So, we’re here to discuss the different cooking times and temperatures for different types of meat so that you don’t overcook or undercook your meal. But for the health concious, they should avoid certain meats. It’s worth noting that we’re here to discuss the temperatures needed for slow cooking and these should not be considered as universal standards for searing or grilling.
Big Horn’s largest available grill, the XL 1093 comes with a large cooking area of 1093 sq inches. With it’s low price tag of around $300 and a high cooking area, this product could have been a great choice for pellet smokers. However, we’d rather not suggest something that’s susceptible to rust and weather conditions to be kept outdoors at all times.

Set it and forget it. It does not require you to stay while the food is being cooked as you can set a timer and temperature so you can do other things, like prepare the side dishes or drink beer with friends while the grill is doing its job. Most pellet grills use electronic controls to regulate the grilling according to your preferences. You have a choice to choose the level of smoke aside from choosing your desired temperature.

There are several types of grills and these are charcoal, gas, wood, electric smokers, open fire grill, and pellet grill. Each of them offers different benefits. In terms of comparison, pellet grill is still superior because it is the combination of all such grills. You can use it to smoke that way charcoal grill does. You enjoy the wood flavor of wood grill using pellets, and it is also electrically and electronically-operated.

It comes with some unique features, such as its proprietary “Sense-mate” technology that uses a thermal sensor to monitor the ambient temperature. If used in a cold weather, this grill fires up the turbo mode so you won’t have to wait for it to heat up before you start using it. It comes with “fan-only” mode to blow off the ash and automatically clean the grill once it has been shut off.

We Did'nt Have to Overcrowd The Grill: There's nothing worse than overcrowding your grill, it prevents anything from cooking. We couldn’t contain our excitement when we saw home much room you get, over 560 cubic inches!!! If you like cooking for family and friends like me, you will glad to know you can feed everyone at once. It can get quite tiresome if you have to cook in batches.
