The Woodwind with Sear Box is the second option that Camp Chef gives you for searing steaks.  The Sear Box on the Woodwind is a 16,000 BTU/hr propane fired burner capable of reaching temperatures of 900F.  The Sear Box is a searing beast that will give audacious grill marks and caramelized crusts.  The downside of the Sear Station is that you need a separate propane tank.
The Woodwind SG is fueled by hardwood pellets generating heat and smoke, infusing your food with a savory wood fire taste that’ll make your taste buds sing. With grill temperature settings from 160°F to 500°F, and the included Sear Box that reaches up to 900° F, you can expect perfect results, whether you’re grilling, smoking, baking, roasting, braising, barbecuing, or even searing. When you’re finished, cleanup is a breeze thanks to Camp Chef's patented ash clean-out cup system. No Camp Chef competitor has an easier ash clean-up process.
The initial design by Mr. Traeger consisted of a “classic” drum barrel shaped grill design with a chimney on top. Instead of the firebox, the grill contained a pellet hopper. It used a fan to distribute the heat evenly over the pellets. Unlike the modern pellet grills, the original design didn’t include any auto-ignition features and the pellets had to be lit manually.
What we loved most is that it has a trap door to allow burn pot cleaning after every cooking. It lessened our job of cleaning this pellet smoker by 60%. It is more than amazing because from our research we know that a feature like this will cost twice as much as the Camp Chef. Honestly, this has emerged as our key point when we selected this smoker to be the best in our review.
As an entry level pellet grill, the Camp Chef SmokePro STX is the perfect mix of price and performance. Whether you’re thinking about buying your first grill or just want to upgrade your current one, the STX makes for a great choice. Even though it’s a got an amazing low price tag, you’ll find it comes with an automated auger, integrated meat probe and high quality LED display for superior performance.

This type of smoker is known for being an easy to use option which features many automatic functions, as well as a general simplicity. They offer portability due to their size and weight, automatic fuel feeding and automatic ignition. They also tend to be good at maintaining temperature and have a reputation for being easier to clean than other options.
Its digital-control, centrally placed oven gives you accurate cooking temperatures from 170 F to 600 F. The probe interface included can be programmed to cook and control the temperature with high precision. A steady burning flame is maintained by air forced into the chamber by the fan with the help of an electric ignition. The flowing air creates abundant convectional heat to bring out the best flavor of your grilled food.

The PK-360, with 360 square inches of cooking space, this rust free, cast aluminum charcoal grill is durable and easy to use. Four-way venting means it's easy to set up for two zone cooking with more control than single vent Kamado grills. It is much easier to set up for 2-zone cooking than any round kamado. Beautifully designed and completely portable. Meathead says it is his preferrred grill.
This mid-sized pellet smoker is comparable in capacity to Traeger's popular Lil' Tex Elite, but much more sophisticated and easy to find for well below its list price. It's one of the few pellet smokers we've seen with an ash removal system. Although pellets don't create much ash, they need regular cleaning, which is a pain on most other designs because the greasy grates and drip pan must be removed to get at the fire pot where the pellets burn. Camp Chef's solution is a "trap door" under the fire pot. The bottom slides back letting ash drop into a removable cup, shown upper left. You still have to clean out the bottom of the smoke box periodically, but you don't have to worry about a clogged firepot that could impair the smokers performance.
One of Camp Chef’s latest innovations, the SmokePro SG was developed based on customer feedback of previous pellet grills. As a result, it offers everything you would love in a pellet grill. From a smart smoke technology that gives you full control over cooking temperature that ranges between 160F and 500F, to Camp Chef’s very own patented ash cleanout system, this grill has it all. It is also the only other model aside from the SGX model to feature slide and grill technology.
The included temperature probes on the new controller. All in all, this controller is completely awesome. Upgraded design, fantastic temperature control, and two temperature probes. I like to use my own thermometers (I am a self-declared thermometer hoarder) so I probably won’t get too much use out of the included probes. If you like to have them built in though, you’ll love it and be thrilled to have two thermometers to monitor multiple foods at once.

I have been looking at pellet grills for a long time and finally decided on this Camp Chef Smoke Pro. I couldn't be more happy with my decision to buy this grill. Honestly, the results are in the food and I have yet to screw anything up on this. It is so simple. A couple of the features I liked are the low and high smoke settings. These settings produce lots of smoke to add lots of flavor to whatever you are cooking. Don't get me wrong the other settings all produce plenty of smoke but I've found most the time I end up just using low or high smoke because it's simple and it works. The other feature that I would not give up is the burner cleanout. Honestly, after having this I wouldn't buy another grill that didn't have the cleanout. On top of that this thing is built solid and assembled easily. If you've been considering getting a pellet grill go with this one. You will be happy you did. So will the wife, kids, friends, neighbors and if you're lucky a couple of new girlfriends!!! The only negative is that now there is no reason to go out to dinner any more. I can make way better smoked food at home.
You can achieve both direct and indirect cooking through the flame broiler, which also channels the grease away. The best part of this grill is that you get a wide porcelain coated surface of about 900 square inches to satisfy a large crowd. On top of that, you get a main surface of 633 square inches and an upper cooking rack of 280 square inches, which is also removable. Louisiana Pellet Grill will aid any aspiring cook to grill vegetables, burgers, steak or smoke fish, jerky and ribs any time with confidence.
The Camp Chef PG24S uses three cleanup and maintenance systems. The Ash Cup Clean Out System collects leftover ash in a cup for easy cleanup. The Grease Management System instantly drains grease into a bucket for easy disposal. Finally, the Pellet Purge System helps you clean out pellets from your auger with ease. Cleaning up has never been so easy.
We love recommending and reviewing wood pellet smoker grills, but we also want you to get the most out of them once you purchase. Without proper care and maintenance, even the best pellet smoker is bound to have a shorter lifespan. Therefore, how you use your smoker and how you maintain it after use greatly determines how long it will serve you.  A little bit of work will go a long way to extending the life of your smoker. A thorough cleaning of the smoker should occur at least once a year. If you frequently use it, you should have it done at least three times a year. Buying quality pellets will extend its life as well.
While the Green Mountain Grills Davy Crockett Pellet Grill is compatible with most iOS and Android devices, I want to stress, check the compatibility of your device with the grill before purchasing because it would suck to buy this grill only to find out that this feature is not compatible. Also, if you do not plan on using the grill on some elevated surface, the legs are not tall so the grill sits close to the ground. Regardless, this is a GREAT smoker: your meat will come out tender and juicy with that authentic BBQ taste we all love! Neither of these cons affects the quality of your BBQ and both can be worked around.
Let’s talk about an inherent flaw with pellet smokers. All they do is smoke. Can’t cook burgers, brats or dogs on them, right? That’s wrong, Wrong, WRONGGGGG! Well first off, don’t cook brats over high heat. You’re better off cooking them in a smoker than a ripping hot grill, but that’s another story. But I get it with steaks and burgers and such. You can do more than smoke on this bad boy! This grill has an optional Sear Box:
With a temperature probe for the meat inside the chamber, this allows you to keep an eye on the temperature of your meat without opening the grill. Nothing ruins a brisket or roast faster than the griller who constantly fiddles with the meat on the grill. Opening the chamber lets the heat out and that can quickly make for some tough meat. This handy feature takes the guesswork out of how ready your meal is, helping you get the best outcome.

The Traeger Pellet Grill BBQ155.01 19.5K BTU Pellet Grill is one of the most trusted pellet smoker grill available in the market, and you can pick this one if you are looking for a large wood-pellet grill. It has dimensions of 44” x 19”, which come together to give you a cooking area of 836 square inches. This area is sufficient for holding 16 rib racks, 40 burgers or 12 chickens at once without any difficulty! The Trager Pellet Grill comes with an electronic auto-start feature, which runs on regular 110V AC household current. The users only need to press a switch to ignite the grill.
4. Temperatures were constantly all over the place. For example, on 70-80 degree days I learned to set my controller at 180 if I wanted to cook at 225-230. It was not uncommon to see temperature swings of +/- 30 degrees. Some Traeger users will tell you "yeah but did you play with the p-settings?" Why? Why would I want to have to constantly adjust a setting to make it hold a temp within +/- 5 degrees. Let's be honest. Most people want to set it and forget it. I fall into that category. This particular problem was so frustrating I went and bought an igrill 2 to monitor the internal smoker temp. As a note to this, I also bought 3 different brand controllers to try and remedy this problem with no success. Beyond frustrating!!
Tech geeks: A tech geek will also prefer a Pellet smoker grill and some of the latest grills including Green Mountain Grills came up with some exciting tech functionality like Wi-Fi! Just imagine, hanging with friends and monitoring your pork with your smartphone? You can increase and decrease temperature and control pellet feed without even touching the grill. This gives you the ability to cook while you work!

Most old-timers will tell you that a buildup of soot and grease will improve the taste of your food. This does not prove true, in fact, it’s not good for you and can even be dangerous. At Grills Forever we want your grilling experience to be the best and safe. Therefore, before any cooking session, always clean your grill to optimize its performance and prevent any off-flavors. Check the grease pans or collectors before smoking because the collector could be full and overflow, starting a fire. If there is a grease chute then clean it for sure.

So after some research I felt like I had two choices. I could either spend $1800 on a new Traeger Timberline and double down on Traeger (hoping like crazy they fixed the heat issue) or spend literally half the money and get the sure thing. And by the way, if you feel like you absolutely Must have wifi to monitor, just buy a Woodwind and an iGrill 2 (wifi enabled) and you'll still save $800!

This grill has a modern heating mechanism that adds to the convenience of using it. When the igniter is turned on, it heats the pellets that feed the fire pot via the auger. This auger  creates a heat shield with the induction pan that evenly heats the surface as per the settings and ensures that the meat is thoroughly cooked. For efficient temperature management, this pellet smoker grill has a Digital Pro Controller that can be used to alter the temperature or keep it consistent while cooking as desired. The controller has a detector that keeps track of the number of pallets fed to the fire pot. There are also manual controls that can be used for setting the temperature to high, smoke and medium as desired.
As a general rule pellet grills don’t produce heavy smoke regardless of brand. For many people this is a feature. It is easy to have too much smoke. If you want more smoke, get a charcoal grill with wood chunks for flavor. But I happen to like the balance of smoke flavor. Things to check if having problems are pellets, airflow, & proper temperature control. There are other possibilities, but those are the big ones. So far my unit has worked as advertised. The sear box allows a proper reverse sear which allows for more even cooking & a great crust.

This is the best part of the SmokePro LUX especially since you will use roughly the same amount of pellets in a single cooking session that you would with much smaller models like the SmokePro SE and STX. Except this larger model is just better given the increased amount of food you get out of it. Like all Camp Chef pellet grills, this LUX version uses an automated auger and fan to deliver just the right amount of fuel and oxygen to ensure pellets do not burn out too fast.

As we’ve already said temperature control is the key to getting a moist succulent piece of meat. This pellet smoker comes with a built-in thermostatic control with a digital thermometer, so you can exclude any guesswork while barbecuing. If the temperature sensors detect a drop-in temperature they feed more wood pellets into the burner. This allows you to place your meat on the grill and then let the smoker do the work while you relax.

The Grease Management System instantly drains grease into a bucket for easy disposal. Finally, the Pellet Purge System helps you clean out pellets from your auger with ease. Cleaning up has never been so easy.
In between the legs of this giant pellet grill is the nice additional feature in the form of a solid and reasonably sized steel shelf. While this may not be a make or break pellet grill feature, but it is something you will appreciate if you are always looking for where to place your grilling tools during and in between BBQ sessions. Everything from an extra bag of pellets, to your seasoning products, to temperature probes can be tossed on the bottom shelf.

The Woodwind Classic with Sear Box doesn’t just make grilling easier—it also makes it more delicious. Your pellet grill is fueled by premium hardwood pellets that generate heat and smoke, infusing your food with a savory wood fire taste. The included propane fueled Sear Box mounts perfectly on the side of your grill creating flawless sear marks on just about anything. And when you’re finished cooking, cleanup is a breeze with our patented Ash Cleanout system.
The Davy Crockett Pellet Grill offers open flame technology which uses infrared radiation to cook your food. The peaked lid not only allows for you to cook tall slabs of meat, but it also helps the convection process within the grill, making sure that your meat is thoroughly and evenly cooked. This technology ensures that you get that consistent and authentic tasting BBQ every time you fire up the grill!
For wood pellet grills, it is essential that they come with the best possible temperature control system. The Smart Grill™, coupled together with the auto-lighting feature and a temperature range of 180 to 500 F in 5 degree increments makes it even better. The fire pot has a blower fan along with heat deflector that helps prevent hot spots on the meat being cooked.

Placed against our Top Pick, this Traeger smoker and grill is a worthy competitor. It offers a variety of useful functions that will allow you to smoke, grill, bake, braise, roast and BBQ anything and everything. It’s definitely worth your money, because if you take care of it properly, it’s going to last you a long time. However, since it’s slightly more expensive than the top pick, we just couldn’t set it at the top of our review.

We were surprised to see that the pellet grill was WiFi-compatible. Usually, grills come with basic remotes, but this one comes with a digital WiFi controller. It allows you to control and monitor your cooking through an app on your iOS or Android phone. We found this convenient, since we didn’t have to get up to check on our grill every few minutes. This is probably why it’s one of the top pellet grills in the market.
