The cleanout for both the pellets and ash is a huge perk to the grill.  The patented “Easy Ash Cleanout” does not require the user to take apart the grill.  Instead, they simply have to twist and dump the container.  The 18lb pellet hopper is similarly an easy cleanout.  The stainless steel also makes it easier to clean the grill because of the steel’s properties.

Sick and tired of bad BBQ? Well, so are your friends, neighbors, and family members. With the Woodwind SG wood fire pellet grill, put the bland chicken and burnt steak behind you, and become the grill master you were born to be. With digital temperature control, the Woodwind does all the work for you. All you have to do is turn it on, set the temperature, and let it work while you play—no more babysitting.
The SmokePro SG Pellet Grill is hands down one of the best Camp Chef BBQ products. It has all the features of the SmokePro DLX plus a few extra additions. The only reason it did not make our favorite pick is that it costs over $100 more than the DLX model. It is massive in size and stature, so you are likely to take a while assembling it even with the help of someone else. On the plus side, however, the sheer size of the SmokePro SG means that it will last you through many grilling sessions and outdoor parties.
The versatility of the grill allows you to prepare all of your favorite dishes to your specifications. The hardwood pellets bring out natural and juicy flavors of your food. Additionally, the grill uses convection heating that circulates the burning pellets throughout the grill. The combination of these techniques draws out the best flavors and gives your meat the perfect cook.

It is my understanding that the lo/hi smoke settings are special settings that are engineered to produce more smoke than on the normal settings while still maintaining the set temperature. I can tell you from using the Woodwind that the Hi Smoke setting produces more smoke than most other pellet grills I have used and maintains 225°F at the same time. The Lo Smoke setting maintains about 180°F while producing plenty of smoke.
The initial design by Mr. Traeger consisted of a “classic” drum barrel shaped grill design with a chimney on top. Instead of the firebox, the grill contained a pellet hopper. It used a fan to distribute the heat evenly over the pellets. Unlike the modern pellet grills, the original design didn’t include any auto-ignition features and the pellets had to be lit manually.
Many other features, like its automatic control and built-in meat probe have made us select this smoker as the top one in our pellet smoker review. And the most amazing fact is the price. In the price range (see the price here), we never thought that we could get all these features and benefits. We took all the top smokers into considerations like the Rec Tec smokers, but this PG24 by Camp Chef can beat all through its performance and affordability.
The Davy Crockett smoker is a competitively priced, comes with a lot of great features and offers a great BBQ experience: when you buy this smoker, you can rest assured that you money is well spent. The portability and the power source of this smoker make it the ultimate grill for tailgating! So let’s take a closer look at some of the features that this smoker has to offer:
It features tons of built-in features, designed to facilitate the cooking process. The price on Amazon is much higher than the other smokers of similar types, but Camp Chef PG24 is a high-quality pellet smoker for cooks who are serious about getting the real taste of barbecues from their smoker grills. It is worth every penny. Let’s look at its amazing features.
We have reviewed the best pellet smokers on the market today after doing our extensive comparative research. However, there were some hidden gems that could not make it to our top 10 product list because of one reason or another e.g. due to their high prices, unavailabilities in some regions, and other factors. Also, some just failed to get in our top 10 list only because it was a top 10 list and not a top 20 list. Regardless of the reasons, here are a few honorable mentions that failed to make it to this top 10 best pellet smoker review, but are still worthy in their own rights:
The Camp Chef Woodwind Pellet Grill was chosen as our sixth choice because it lacked some features found in our Top 5 picks, especially when it came to cooking flexibility. While it does offer an impressive 6-in-1 cooking experience, it lacks an auto shut-off feature, which makes it less of a “set it an forget it” kind of smoker. The grill is rather heavy, at an overall weight of 146lbs. It’s also more expensive than the rest, even though it offers similar (even less) features. It’s a decent choice if flavor is the only thing you’re looking for.
The Traeger Lil-Tex 22 Wood Pellet Smoker and Grill impressed us the most with its “6-in-1” feature, which lets you braise, smoke, grill, braise, roast and BBQ all kinds of foods. With porcelain-coated racks, this durable grill offers top-grade function that you’d expect from high-quality pellet smoker grills. The smoker features 418 sq. in. of cooking area, enough to cook for medium-sized groups. But if that isn’t enough, other sizes are available, all offering the same functions. It comes with digital temperature controls, so you can leave it to take care of the rest while you relax and play. This durable pellet grill is 2nd not because it’s not as great as our first pick –the grill is a bit more costly that’s all.
The Smoke Pro SE Pellet Grill brings award-winning barbecue to your back patio. Simply select the desired cooking temperature and ...let the smoker do the rest. Our Smart Smoke Technology maintains a consistent temperature range to produce as much smoke as possible. That means the best flavor possible. And at the end of the cookout, you’ll enjoy the easiest, quickest cleanout system in the industry. Instead of dismantling and cleaning your grill after every use, you can pull a lever and empty the ash out of the fire pot. In a few seconds, you’re ready for your next big barbecue. And it’s good thing too, because that smoky taste is going to keep everyone coming back for more. read more

While you are grilling meat, it is great if you can take the guesswork out of getting everything cooked to perfection, especially when it comes to cooking steaks. With the supplied meat temperature probe, you can do just that so that whether you are cooking a steak to medium rare, or well done, you are able to check it as you cook it. The meat probe also prevents you from overcooking other food, which causes it to dry out, or worse, you end up burning it.
YOYO Grills have a simple and innovative design. It gives you multi-fuel options to create temperature-controlled grilling possibilities. Its temperature is controlled by a LED digital system and can vary heat from 180 degrees Fahrenheit to 475 degrees Fahrenheit.  It’s also very easy to use and BBQ novices will find it very convenient. You simply get the right temperature for grilling your BBQ by making an adjustment.
Second note about the new drip tray, please be cautious. Any time you have direct access to a fire and fat in your food you run the risk of a flare up. If you have anything that is exceptionally fatty and that has dripped on the drip tray, clean it thoroughly before opening the direct heat access. I grilled up some fatty rib eyes and had absolutely no problem, but it’s just something to keep an eye on. It’s always a good idea to clean your grill well before grilling anyways, this is just an extra reminder.

The Woodwind is constructed of durable powder coated steel with a stainless steel lid and fire box. It features a 429 square inch primary cooking area and a 141 square inch upper warming rack. This gives you a total of 570 square inches of cooking space, all heated by 25,000 BTUs of cooking power. With the simple temperature selection system, the grill can be set to temperatures as low as 160 degrees for smoking and up to 500 degrees for the perfect sear. Once you have chosen your desired temperature, the digital display can be toggled between showing the grill temperature and internal food temperature, which is monitored by the included stainless steel meat probe. Smart Smoke technology keeps your Camp Chef pellet grill with 15 degrees of your selected temperature. The automatic auger dispenses pellets as needed from the high capacity hopper, which holds up to 18 pounds of pellets at once. A continuous fan insures that your grill stays evenly heated and smoky, so every bit of food is perfectly cooked. This Woodwind grill also features a Sear Box, which is a stainless steel, 16,000 BTU propane side grill that can reach up to 900 degrees. The Sear Box features a 184 square inch enamel coated cast iron grate for the perfect sear and heat diffuser plates to turn the flame into infrared heat. When you are done cooking, clean up is easy, thanks to the exclusive Camp Chef ash cleanout system. Simply pull open the trap door with the side knob and empty the ash cup underneath the grill. This grill also features a pair of large, heavy-duty wheels and a pair of swivel casters for easy rolling and maneuverability, a pellet clean out door so you can keep your unused pellets protected and dry between uses, and a powder coated steel bottom shelf. A hose, regulator, and holding bracket are included for a 20-pound propane tank (tank not included).
The Woodwind Pellet Grill offers an all-encompassing and powerful grill for a reasonable price.  Its digital temperature control, large cooking area, ash cleanout system, and elite sear box give the grill an edge over the competition.  The ease of use and diverse features allows the most novice cooks to use the grill.  In addition, experienced grill masters can admire the beautiful aesthetic and dynamic features of the grill.

This heavy-duty top-notch grill and smoker has a total cooking area of 429 square inches, which is large enough for cooking around twenty burgers at once. If that’s not enough, it comes with a secondary rack of 144 square inches that you can use for smoking or warming. With a height of 32.5 inches, you can cook a variety of meats and foods to your heart’s desire.

Traeger Junior Elite: The Traeger Junior Elite Wood Pellet Grill is another great alternative from a brand name company. However, you’ll find that with only 300 sq. in. of available space it’s quite compact. It does however come with a cover which might offset some of the cost of having to buy a separate meat thermometer if you want to go that route.

The meat probe also prevents you from overcooking other food, which causes it to dry out, or worse, you end up burning it.

Cleaning up after grilling is every cook’s dreaded part of the process, but this pellet grill simplifies that. Its warming rack comes with a patented ash-catcher system, the Ash Can Cleanout System, that allows for an easier cleanup of the unit. Additionally, it also features a grease drip disposal system that comes with a bucket. You won’t have to waste precious time cleaning up afterward!

The big plus with making good food with a wood pellet barbeque grill is the fact that the types of wood pellet that you choose to supply the barbecue with will supply various flavours allowing you to experiment with the several different types on the market to uncover your favorites. Widely used pellets include hickory, pecan, cherry, mesquite, apple and variety of additional flavours and blends.
There are two Woodwind models available. They were even nice enough to make a little chart so you can see the difference of both. Each grill has the ash and pellet clean-outs, the temperature probe, the bottom shelf, and the extra rack inside. The only major difference is the included sear box and some grill real estate. Camp Chef put together a nice little infographic for you to get a better idea of what each Woodwind model offers.

2 comments. I am smoking a Brisket using the woodwind for the first time today. It’s 97 Deb outside. I was hoping this grill would hold a tighter temp range. I’m averaging at best 210 to 240 with it set at 225. I dii like a less smokier neat so I didn’t use low smoke. Is \_ 15 deg sound right? Also both temp prope read over 300 and one was in a cold brisket and the other I just left in outside ambient temp. Do you think I have a bad controller?
We were surprised to see that the pellet grill was WiFi-compatible. Usually, grills come with basic remotes, but this one comes with a digital WiFi controller. It allows you to control and monitor your cooking through an app on your iOS or Android phone. We found this convenient, since we didn’t have to get up to check on our grill every few minutes. This is probably why it’s one of the top pellet grills in the market.

Moreover, you can attain temperatures not only for smoking and barbecuing, but also for grilling your steaks, hamburgers and chops. You are already aware that different cuts, such as ribs, loins, brisket and roasts require slow and low cooking temperatures, which is quite different than burgers and steaks. To obtain a great flavor from your steak and burgers, high and consistent temperatures are needed. That’s why, Louisiana Pellet Grill has been designed to provide high temperatures as well.

For wood pellet grills, it is essential that they come with the best possible temperature control system. The Smart Grill™, coupled together with the auto-lighting feature and a temperature range of 180 to 500 F in 5 degree increments makes it even better. The fire pot has a blower fan along with heat deflector that helps prevent hot spots on the meat being cooked.

With the internal temperature sensor, meat temperature probe, and a digital temperature readout, the PG24 pellet smoker takes the guesswork out of your cooking process. An advanced digital temperature chip gives a more steady smoke and temperature, eliminating large temperature swings and giving a more consistent cooking temperature. The patented Ash Can Cleanout System makes clean up the easiest out there.
You aren’t limited to basic barbecuing. For us, what really stood out was its ability to deliver pro chef-level cooking even at home. This smoker lets you explore all there is about cooking, letting you braise, grill, smoke, bake, roast, braise and BBQ all kinds of food. Using only the best and the purest hardwood pellets, you’re sure to have the juiciest and tastiest meats and vegetables every time you host your outdoor parties. If you think you have to give up quality because of the quantity of foods it can cook, that’s not the case. Quality is maintained whatever it is you’re cooking.
Let’s talk about an inherent flaw with pellet smokers. All they do is smoke. Can’t cook burgers, brats or dogs on them, right? That’s wrong, Wrong, WRONGGGGG! Well first off, don’t cook brats over high heat. You’re better off cooking them in a smoker than a ripping hot grill, but that’s another story. But I get it with steaks and burgers and such. You can do more than smoke on this bad boy! This grill has an optional Sear Box:

Controlling temperature is the best way to get the desired piece of cooked meat. This smoker grill has a built-in thermostatic control and a digital thermometer, so that means you won’t have to do much guesswork during barbecue. If the sensors sense a fall in temperature, more wood pellets are added to the burner, which allows you to place the meat on grill and relax.
I simply wished to thank you very much once again. I do not know what I would’ve tried in the absence of the entire smart ideas shared by you over such a situation. It absolutely was a very frustrating crisis in my circumstances, however , observing a professional style you dealt with it forced me to cry with fulfillment. I am just happy for your advice and hope you are aware of a powerful job that you’re putting in educating many others thru a site. More than likely you’ve never got to know all of us.
