For my Woodwind Pellet Grill Review, I wanted to highlight as much as I could. I figure if you’re preparing to make a financial investment in a grill, you’ll want as much info as you can get. It’s pretty detailed, so stick with me. What I first noticed about the Woodwind (and the other Camp Chef pellet grill I own) was the overall weight and strength of the body of the grill itself. This is definitely a two-person assembly job, but when it comes to a smoker I wouldn’t want it any other way. Having thicker gauge steel on the actual grill barrel means more even and consistent heat, which is kind of a big deal in both low and slow BBQ, baking, braising, roasting, and hot and fast grilling. This is top priority for me and the Woodwind passes with flying colors. On my first run with the Woodwind, it fired right up, reached temperature, and held there within +/- 10 degrees F of the set temperature. Dreamy!

Most pellet smokers aren't so good at searing. Once again the clever folks at Camp Chef address this pellet predicament with an optional LP gas sear burner that can be added onto current Camp Chef SmokePro pellet grills by removing the right side shelf and using the existing hardware to mount the burner. This baby gets HOT! The 16,000 BTU burner range is 480° F Low to 900° F High - fantastic for reverse seared steaks. Cook the steaks low and slow in the smoker at 225° F until the meat probe signals the internal temp is about 110° F, then slap them onto the sear box to finish. Flip like you've never flipped before and don't walk away because it won't be there long before a beautiful brown crust forms and the interior meat climbs to the delicious Chef's Temp range of 130° to 135° F. If you have a grill that hits high searing temps, this option that runs a couple hundred bucks is unnecessary, but if you don't - Click here to get your crazy hot Sear Box!

Some products feature the wood-pellet fuel system as a bonus, but the Camp Chef SmokePro SG makes its wood-fired function the star of the show. Using 100% real hardwood pellets, recreating 5-star-cuisine level dishes on a large scale is now made convenient. Though it still has limited reviews, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this smoker quickly becomes a best-selling choice. It’s the kind of smoker that you need if you want hassle-free and fast cooking.

Since the SG is a convection grill, there is heat constantly circulating and reaching that upper rack. The rack also splits and slides out of the way, letting you have full access to the grates below. Basically, this one design feature had me giddy. OH!! And the fact that the main grill rack is also split into two smaller racks. That’s right. They come out of the grill and FIT IN MY DISHWASHER. My heart. It is beyond happy.
Due to having such features and being the best Lousiana Grills Product, the Louisiana Grills LG Pellet Grill 1100 could not escape our vigilant gaze when we did our research. However, it had some shortcomings, mainly due to its build and price that did not allow it to make it into our pellet smoker review. Regardless, we could compare it with some of our products that it had tied with. But as always, we could only choose the top 10 products for this review and this had to go. Regardless, this still is a great product, worth mentioning.
The great part about this smoker is that it is fairly light-weight, weighing in at 69 lbs, and its legs double as handles: all you have to do is fold the legs up and carry the smoker wherever you need to! Furthermore, this smoker comes with a 12V connector that you can plug into the cigarette lighter of your car, and a 12-foot alligator clips that you can connect to your car’s battery if necessary. You can take this smoker anywhere!
Did or should I say tried a pork butt the next. The temp control went bonkers. At 225 the temp went less than 190 and up to 312. I switched to hi smoke. The smoke produced was beyond a lot it was crazy. I shut it down and finished the pork butt in the oven. Here is the good part. I am sure the controller is defective and called Camp Chef. They figured the probes were bad but just in case sent a controller with the probes no questions asked. Things should be fine for the weekend. Excellent customer service

Despite being a little complicated when compared to the other types of grilling equipment (because of the automatic pellet auger and fan), they are pretty easy to repair if you have the right parts. You can find these parts right at a home depot or online. It doesn’t matter if you need to replace the auger or the fan, the ignitor rod or the hopper, for the top brands, you’ll find the replacement parts just as easily. Let’s look at the replaceable parts of a pellet smoker:

As a general rule pellet grills don’t produce heavy smoke regardless of brand. For many people this is a feature. It is easy to have too much smoke. If you want more smoke, get a charcoal grill with wood chunks for flavor. But I happen to like the balance of smoke flavor. Things to check if having problems are pellets, airflow, & proper temperature control. There are other possibilities, but those are the big ones. So far my unit has worked as advertised. The sear box allows a proper reverse sear which allows for more even cooking & a great crust.
Pellet Pro 680 – As its name implies, this pellet offers 680 square inches of cooking space. But, this still falls short of what the Woodwind has to offer with its included sear box. That being said, Pellet Pro 680 is a serious competitor. It is packed with features such as a precise PID temperature controller, 13-14 gauge steel body, meat probes, variable temperature settings, heat deflector, drip pan and free 100lb bags of pellets.
With a Camp Chef pellet grill, you can bring professional wood-fired flavors right to your back patio. Grill, smoke, bake, roast, braise, and barbecue on one grill, all with the touch of a dial. If you’ve been around for a while, you know I can’t help myself when it comes to Camp Chef’s new releases. I’ve previously written both a Woodwind pellet grill review as well as the DLX Pellet Grill review. You can read each of those reviews and see my opinions on the overall construction quality and customer satisfaction. For this review, I am going to focus on my favorite new features that the SG pellet grill brings to the table (there are a lot!!) and how they can help you improve your overall grilling experience. Here are the stats for the SG and below I’ll talk you through some of my favorites.
Because I like to learn from my mistakes I decided to go with the Camp Chef Woodwind grill with Searbox and I couldn't be more pleased! I now have a single grill that will truly smoke, grill, bake, and sear! In fact, my wife and I meal prep on it! We can use the Searbox to quickly grill our chicken (4-5 minutes) while smoking pork tenderloin! Culinary multi-tasking! Gotta love that!

We at Grills Forever have used many kinds of pellet smokers in the past 4 years and come up with different strategies to find the best functioning pellet smoker. All of our reviews are so detailed because they come from the first-hand experience. After 72 hours of researching and testing numerous products, our team of outdoor cooking enthusiasts has decided to crown the PG24 by Camp Chef Pellet Smoker as the best. It emerged as the perfect choice for rookies and experts, always delivering that rich BBQ flavor and fragrance.

I've had it for right at a year as of the time of this review, and I absolutely LOVE IT. Normally I am of the opinion that you should overspend to get the better product, but I am 100% satisfied with the SE. I've gone through almost 200# of pellets in a year and I've successfully smoked three briskets, pork in various forms, a bunch of whole chickens, salmon, and probably some other thing I'm not thinking of. The show-stopped for me is bacon-wrapped dove breasts. I smoke them for an hour and then finish them on my grill. They are out-of-this-world amazing.
